Under Section 187 of the IPC, if a driver involved in an accident fails to stop the vehicle on directions by a Sub-Inspector or above in uniform, he or she can be punished with imprisonment for up to six months and/or a fine. This section applies to situations where the driver of the vehicle involved in an accident does not stop the vehicle and attempts to flee the scene on directions by a police officer in uniform.
