Failing to Yiend Right-of-Way

In India, overtaking violations are considered a serious offense as they can lead to accidents and pose a risk to the safety of other road users. The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 and its subsequent amendments provide guidelines for overtaking on Indian roads, and violating these rules can result in fines and penalty points on the driver’s license.

The fines for overtaking violations in India vary depending on the severity of the offense. Here are some examples of overtaking violations and the corresponding fines:

  1. Overtaking in a prohibited zone – Fine of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000
  2. Overtaking from the left side – Fine of Rs. 100 to Rs. 300
  3. Overtaking dangerously – Fine of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000
  4. Overtaking causing an accident – Fine of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000

In addition to fines, overtaking violations can also result in penalty points on the driver’s license. If a driver accumulates too many penalty points, their license can be suspended or revoked.
