The Ministry of Road Transport will issue FASTag-based annual toll passes on national highways from August 15, which will cost Rs 3,000. Prebooking on the Highway Yatra app will start from next week. This pass will be valid for one year or 200 trips. According to NHAI, this scheme is for non-commercial private vehicles and the Fastag will be activated in two hours.

Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has issued an advisory to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It is said that there is a lot of demand for the pass. Vehicle owners are showing more interest in taking advantage of the scheme at nearly eight hundred toll plazas in the country, NHAI’s website and toll free number. They are asking about ways to take advantage of the scheme.

There will be pre-booking of annual passes. For flawless implementation of the annual pass scheme, instructions have been given to complete preparations at all toll plazas by June 30. The network of 600 national highways in the country is 1.46 lakh kilometer long, out of which Uttar Pradesh has about 12 thousand kilometer long national highways.
The system will be effective at 119 toll plazas. The Eastern region of NHAI is trying to start the pre-booking facility from July 1, but it may take a week to make the entire system technically advanced.
Let us tell you that the annual toll pass will be valid for one year or a maximum of 200 trips (whichever is earlier). The system has been specially designed for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps and vans etc.) and will make seamless travel possible on national highways across the country.
Annual pass will be activated in two hours
Regional Officer of NHAI Eastern Region, SK Arya said that the annual pass will be activated on the Highway Yatra App and NHAI website only. The annual pass will be activated after confirming the eligibility of the vehicle and the Fastag linked to it. After successful verification, the user will have to pay three thousand rupees for the year 2025-26. The annual pass on the registered Fastag will be activated in two hours.

— If the customer already has a Fastag, there is no need to buy a new Fastag. Annual pass can also be purchased on mobile. Can be activated on existing Fastag, provided it meets the eligibility criteria.
— Annual pass will be valid only at toll plazas on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways. At toll plazas on expressways, state highways etc. which are managed by state governments or local bodies, parking etc. The FASTag will work as a regular FASTag and applicable user charges may apply.
— The annual pass will be valid for one year or 200 transactions (trips) from the date of activation, whichever is earlier. After completion of 200 trips or one year, it will automatically convert to a regular Fastag. The vehicle owner will have to activate the annual pass again.
— The Annual Pass cannot be transferred to any other vehicle. It will be valid only for the vehicle on which the Fastag is affixed and registered. Using it on any other vehicle will render it inactive.
— Fastag must be installed on the windshield of the vehicle. Annual pass will not be issued on Fastag registered with only chassis number. You will have to update the vehicle registration number to activate the annual pass.
